This is a series of blog posts dedicated to great photographers that are contributors to Lobster. Read about the brilliant minds behind the camera, how photography mingles with their lives and the stories behind their best shots.

Who is BRDNK?

My name is Dmitriy. I’m a simple guy from Ukraine with big dreams.

From my childhood, I saw wonderful little things around me – every sunset, sun ray, reflection in the water. I always wanted to capture these moments so I started my way with the most simple camera I had, then my father saw my passion for photography and bought me my first DSLR. It was Nikon D40x. I could not stop capturing everything. For now, my hobby grew into my job, the way of my life. The fundamentals of my vision are the geometry of lights and shadows, using environment, and special colouring for expressing of the mood and style of my photography.

My desires are growing day by day. I started to capture cinematic moments and don’t want to stop just on photos. I film videos also.

I created my own production. I work with my creative team and we are looking in one direction.

Today we work worldwide.

I’m 25 but it’s just the beginning.

The story behind 5 photos:

Gangnam Wave

The first and my favourite photo in my portfolio. Seoul. Gangnam- a super technological and developed business district in Korea. There is an open access to almost all the roofs so we got up on the top of one of the buildings owned by IT company. I noticed the perfect place for the picture was right on the edge. I worried a lot, it was too dangerous. Professional skill is fearless. We did it and it became my favourite picture that I still use on the main page of my website.

Wizard

I always wanted to shoot in the rain – the only problem was to find a model that wouldn’t be scared of getting wet. It was my last day in Korea and the rainy season had started. I used all of my socials to find someone beautiful and crazy to make that shoot. I love these reflections and glowing water on the floor. Diffused light from skyscrapers filled all the sky. Drops shine bright like diamonds. Did you ever noticed that beauty?

Neon Demon

I’m always trying to create unique content. Nowadays it becomes very fashionable to take pictures with neon light, but whoever did a shooting inside the huge neon billboard at the height of the 50th floor? It was one of the most inaccessible places for me. That was my inspiration!

Eat Me

Cherkassy, Ukraine. Small town, where I’m from. Inspired by travellings I wanted to create some dope and rude dark side shots. I had an idea to show wild and animal instincts of the human. I found a tattoed couple. They look so brutal, but their characters are opposite their appearance. And for my fortune, they were good actors. Because we did right that what I imagined. Don’t judge just for appearance!

Restricted Area

Imagine the most epic and outstanding hotel in Manila, it really looks like the Empire State Building! It was so hard to get the permission for the shoot there but I managed to. It was a fashion shooting with elements of nudity which was difficult as people in the Philippines are very conservative and don’t take off their clothes even during swimming. What was the surprise of the guards, when the model showed her breast! I can not describe their desire to help us with anything :D

That affected a lot of attention from visitors so security had to stop our shoot but we made some dope pictures before we left the «restricted area».

3 tips for a beginner:

1. The most important thing is to determine the main direction of creativity.
2. Read more literature, watch thematic videos on YouTube.

3. Do not use presets, cause they are always destroy everything. Try to edit colours by yourself.

And have more and more practice. Only practice will give the best experience in everything that you do.
