Who is Lukas?

Hello everyone, my name is Lukas and I am an Economic Master student living in Cologne, Germany. My dad was the first person to introduce me to photography, and I further enhanced my passion during a trip around the world in 2014, when he was brave enough to lend me his camera. I traveled around the globe for 10 months and visited some of the most amazing places on earth.

Once the trip had finished, I was bitten by the traveling bug and driven by the desire to escape the daily routine of life, exploring places and capturing them with my camera. While traveling, I was constantly introduced to new things which brought my inner child back to life.

The seven photos I want to share with you were taken during my various travels over the last three years. With my pictures, I want to encourage other people to follow my path, to go outdoors and collect as many moments and memories as possible.

The stories behind the best photos

1. NORTHERN LIGHTS – ICELAND

Iceland was on my bucket list for a long time, especially because I wanted to see the Northern Lights. After a few nights without success, we were able to experience a spectacular show in the sky. I spent more than three hours in the freezing night but, as you can see, it was worth it to capture these shots.

2. GREAT BARRIER REEF – AUSTRALIA

People often ask me “what was your favorite travel moment?” It is very difficult to name one, but this next picture is definitely in my top five: The Great Barrier Reef in Australia. To see such beauty and variety in nature always reminds me of how special this planet is and how important it is to protect it.

3. LOFOTEN – NORWAY

Last year I had a great opportunity to explore the beautiful Lofoten in the North-West of Norway. This panorama picture is the best example to express what I love about the place. The diversity is breathtaking, and it is possible to explore something new every single day.

4. ANTELOPE CANYON – USA

My next picture is maybe one of the most photographed places on earth, and I am sure you have already seen some pictures before. But when you stand inside the canyon and look at those amazing shaped rocks and colored walls that look like they have been painted, it is like you are on another planet. After visiting, it seems quite obvious why so many people love to travel to that place.

5. NABUREKU – FIJI

It’s hard to describe in words how impressive Fiji is, so I’ll let you look at the picture instead.

6. FAIRY POOLS – SCOTLAND

Spending one week with five friends in a caravan has the potential to cause much trouble, but it definitely provides you with many fun moments. While exploring Scotland in March this year, this picture was taken at the Fairy Pools on the western part of Isle of Skye, which was one of my favourite spots during that trip.

7. FRANZ-JOSEF-GLACIER – NEW ZEALAND

The last one is also very special to me. Not because of the location or the picture itself, but it was one of the first photographs I took during my time in New Zealand in 2014. I shot this picture during a helicopter flight to the Franz-Josef-Glacier on the South Island. After a very rainy morning with some serious clouds, we got lucky as we reached the summit and were rewarded with this epic view.

Favourite food for thought

Over the past years, I have been inspired by some very talented photographers, like Hannes Becker, Daniel Ernst, and Guerel Sahin.  Nevertheless, I want to invite you to join me on my various adventures and always try to live after my favourite slogan: “Collect moments, not things.”

To celebrate Lukas photo story, we’ve created a unique collection of his work – take a look.
