So you’ve said to yourself that you want to build a website?

Well, thats great but what type of website should you create? In this series we’ll be interviewing different web designers and web developers. The main focus of this seres will centre around the different styles website they build, and will cover topics such as imagery, platforms and more.

Before we start the series we thought we would give you the rundown on a few different styles of website, these include:

  • Personal Websites
  • Blogs
  • Informational websites
  • E-commerce websites / Online Business Brochures
  • Personal Websites

Personal websites:

Personal websites can be used in a variety of ways, this is due to the simple fact that they are sites about, the individual user and can show off unique talents and personality to anyone on the internet. This style of website can benefit the individual in a number of ways, one of which is that it can allow the website creator to showcase their portfolio of work. This is especially useful in creative industries such as photography or video production, as the individual can show off various small projects they have worked on over a period of time, potentially landing them their dream job.

Blogs:

Love talking about Ferraris or maybe you have a unique opinion on the newest Mercedes that needs a lot more than 140 characters? Blogs come in many different forms and styles and can be used in a variety of different ways. If you see yourself as an interesting person and want others to read up on your awesome adventures, then a blog may be just the one for you. Furthermore this is not the only way that a blog can be used as blog sites can be formed to write articles on news surrounding specific topics such as music, art, technology and more. However blogs do not just exist for the individual, businesses can use blogs to let their customers know of changes in the business or upcoming events customers may be interested in.

Informational Websites:

Fancy yourself to be an expert in photography? Want to save time explaining the importance of camera lenses and how they can import image quality? If the answer is yes then you make want to create an informational website. This style of website is mainly focused around the idea of having a large amount of information on a topic and explaining that to readers and subscribers to the site. Wikipedia is a great example of this with its ever-growing wealth of information about pretty much everything. The individual may choose to create an informational website based on their interests if they know a lot of facts and information about the subject. Businesses may choose to create this form of website if they specialise in a small industry and, may want to help potential customers understand the facts and issues they cover by providing an informational website to explain. e.g. a small marine law firm creating a website explaining the different laws they cover.

E-commerce websites / Online Business Brochures:

If you’re a business owner in the age of the internet, then having some form of online presence is a must, this can be done in a variety of ways; such as social media. However I believe it’s a must that businesses have an online home in which customers can go to in order to find out information about that company. Having an e-commerce website can benefit a business as they are able to reach a greater market than that of just the physical store. In addition to this, businesses that provide a service such as wedding planning, may need a website to showcase a portfolio of the company’s work and the different services that they provide.
