Some photos are so special that you would like to display them to let them surround you. There are several ways how to exhibit photos in home environment but this one you haven’t seen before – we present sprayprinting. A start-up company from Estonia is working on a solution that converts digital designs and photos into wall art automatically with the help of your own hand.
SprayPrinter mobile app breaks an image down into pixels, calculates their exact position and tells the printer exactly when to open the valve, avoiding repeated layers and identifying any missing pixels. The result is an image that is printed on the wall one pixel at a time similar to what can be seen in popart. But as you are the master of your tool, as it is up to you how the dots roll – horizontal, vertical, or any other way you’d like to express yourself. Depending on what kind of a result you prefer you can have as many colours as you want by changing different spray cans. Similar to any spray can you can use SprayPrinter on any surface, even textile, plastic, furniture, etc.
Making art with a help of a machine brings up the old question of man vs machine. Many feel that sprayprinting is adulterating the concept of wall art while the other see that it brings new opportunities worth to experiment. Just like it was (and still is) difficult for the art world to accept photography as a form of art when it first emerged. Whatever the impression is, it’s undoubtedly a new futuristic way of seeing wall art and gives people more possibilities to change their own environment.
Interior designer Martti Ruus said that at first he was afraid that SprayPrinter will steal the job from interior designers. “But then I understood that SprayPrinter actually widens the perspective for designers as well,” he added.
