Dear David Bailey,
My name is Aiyush Pachnanda, I am an 18-year-old social media apprentice and a freelance photographer. I started my journey in photography whilst attending college in 2013. My teacher at that time told me I would never become a good photographer as the camera I had wasn’t ‘professional’.
Offended, I practiced my skills on my camera, which was a simple bridge camera at that time, I just shot everything: from friends to nature, buildings and everything! Later that year, I was given my own DSLR, and ever since, I have been pushing my skills and knowledge to the limit. Most importantly, I started to believe in myself. Now, I am pushing myself to take shots that are unique, shots that can wow everyone, and can also represent my life by showing how I see the world.
My favourite genre of photography has to be fashion. Simply, I believe fashion rules the world. It is what people judge each other with, it is how we portray ourselves, and it is how a person sees themself. Fashion collectively makes you, you. I also like street photography; finding a monument that everyone experiences in their day-to-day life and then making a story around it, I believe, is magical.
This is my favourite fashion photo that I have taken. I can’t say why it is my favourite, but it’s more about how strong the emotion is within the photo, what it represents itself to me, and also everyone else that sees the photo. To me, it connotes purity and standing out in a world. It encourages uniqueness.
David Bailey, you have been a big inspiration to me: your attempts trying to change the definition of what fashion is and how you have done it inspires me. By creating overly sexual photographs through the clothes and the models, you have changed the norm of how people think in terms of how we dress.
I would love to follow in your footsteps.
My dream goal is to be the next significant fashion photographer that has created a major effect on why people dress the way they do. I would also love to work with a major fashion magazine, or become an international fashion photographer.
Thank you David Bailey.
Your work has inspired me deeply.
